Today, I am a stand up paddle boarder. Yesterday, I was a struggling designer in New York City. It's been a journey that I never could have foretold.
The first time I got on an airplane to see a new part of the world, I was three months old. Exploring is as much a part of me as my bones. Discovering a new place or experiencing, something fresh and different makes me feel more alive than anything else.
I’ve been fascinated by the ocean for as long as I can remember. Perhaps this comes from being born and raised in the desert. Perhaps from the fact that it’s a vast alien world we know almost nothing about. Perhaps something else altogether.
All I know for sure is that I find it so much easier to breath deeply when I am by the sea. That is why I was willing to change my whole life.
Once I started spending so much time outside I started to notice the environment more and more. Not just the beauty, I've always seen that, but the struggle that the planet is currently embroiled in. I started to see the garbage polluting our oceans and I started to take real notice of climate change and the effects it was having. This launched me into action. I could no longer sit by idly, thinking everything was fine.
I decided to paddle the Wild Atlantic Way to bring attention to the current situation. But more than that, I want to bring attention to the beauty of the planet and why it is worth fighting for balance.
There are things we can all do in our daily lives to minimize our negative impact on the environment. I'm just learning now all the ways I can make a positive change. Come learn with me! Let's start making a real shift, let's start preserving our beautiful Earth and all it's glorious biodiversity for future generations.
